July Monthly Round-Up

July is the ultimate summer month in NYC and there’s more to do and see than ever before. It’s time to get out there and soak up the sun and fun of our great city. Check out these excellent summer events! BAMcinemaFest: Sometimes the soundtrack is the absolute best part of the film. The Brooklyn Academy of Music celebrates the most amazing movie music at their CinemaFest. This is one classy feast for your eyes and ears. (July 1st) The International African Arts Festival: The people of Africa have brought an amazing amount of cultural heritage to New York City. Their music, dance and art have influenced just about everything we love. The IAA Festival is a joyous celebration of every aspect of African culture. (July 1st-4th) The World Cup: The frenzy around the World Cup is only just starting to heat up. Head to the Paley Center to watch it all on the big screen. You’ll feel like you’re really there! (July 1st-15th) shutterstock_1077469490 NYC SummerStage: You can experiences some of NYC’s greatest performances without ever spending a dime thanks to the NYC SummerStage Festival. Music, dance, theatre and even lectures are free to watch at parks across the city all summer long! (Runs all of July) Whipped Cream: What do you get when you eat too many sweets, eating as much as an elephant eats? That’s the question that this exclusive opera event plans to answer. Sure, it’s a weird topic for an Opera at the Met, but it’s guaranteed to be entertaining! (July 2nd-7th) Free Summer Movies: What could be better than summer movies? How about free summer movies? At parks all around the city you’ll find just that--all summer long! Check their schedule regularly to find your favorite films. (Starts July 2nd) IMG_20180621_205107 Midsummer Night Swing: We all love to bump and grind at nightclubs around the city but some of us miss the days of classy dance. Midsummer Night Swing is your opportunity to learn the classic art of swing dancing. With live music and talented performers it’s one of NYC’s best dance festival. (July 3rd-14th) Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks: When it comes to fireworks displays, nobody does it better than Macy's. This dazzling display will light up the city as we celebrate Independence Day. Find your favorite spot to watch and get there early to nab your seats! (July 4th) Family Fireworks Cruise: Can’t find a good spot in NYC to watch the fireworks? No worries! Sign up for the family fireworks cruise. With gorgeous city sights, tasty food, and amazingly close views of the fireworks, you’re guaranteed to have an unforgettable time. (July 4th) Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest: The ability to wolf down tubular meats at a rapid speed is a skill that can reap you huge rewards. The superstars of speed-eating are coming to Coney Island to compete for the coveted title of hot dog master. What could be more American than this? The Summer White Ball features cool characters, crushing cocktails and totally awesome eats. Just make sure you wear white! (July 7th) AutoCon: New York City has an unholy amount of cars, but we’re not tired of them yet! AutoCon New York is the number one celebration of all things automotive. You’ll come face to face with the absolute coolest rides around and get a sneak peek of next years models. (July 8th) Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival: Get up close and personal with the hip-hop scene at the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival. This music festival also features lectures, panels, and workshops dedicated to the study and advancement of issues facing the urban community. (July 9th-14th) shutterstock_605197286 Fresh Fruit Festival: Pride Month may be over, but the celebration of the LGBTQ community isn’t over. The Fresh Fruit Festival brings you a wonderful selection of theatrical performances by LGBTQ artists. (July 9th-22nd) Books Beneath the Bridge: Celebrate the ancient art of the written word beneath the Brooklyn Bridge at this awesome literary event. Dynamic authors from across the globe will come together to share stories and talk about their work. (Starts July 9th) Bastille Day Ball: Without the French, we wouldn’t have the Statue of Liberty--among other things. Celebrate the French Bastille Day at the official NYC ball. There’ll be live music, dancing, and plenty of hors’devours. (July 13th) City of Water: It’s easy to forget that Manhattan is an island. We’re surrounded by water! Head down to the seaport to celebrate our rivers, the ocean, and nautical life in general. With boat tours, kayak rides, and plenty of food City of Water is great family fun! (July 14th) shutterstock_56599972 NYC Brewers Choice: If you’re over 21 and a fan of beer, you’ll definitely want to check out the Brewer’s Choice beer festival. This Brooklyn based tasting is your chance to sample from the latest and greatest brews from around the world. (July 18th) Art Battle New York: Love is a battlefield, and so (apparently) is art. Art Battle New York takes art to the cutting edge, as top artists compete to fill their canvas with truly incredible works with limited time to spare. Who will come out on top? There’s only one way to find out! (July 20th) Come Out and Play: Embrace your inner child at Come Out and Play. Join kids and adults from all over the city in a day of fun and games.
