In our new Stonehenge Resident Blog Post Series, we ask our residents to write about a topic that's important to them. Saira Sethi from The Ritz Plaza feels that creating happiness as a community is an essential part of being a Stonehenge NYC resident. She shares with us her personal experience of being a resident and encourages us to share our happiness with others. -------- I’m a firm believer in looking on the bright side of life. We should all be a lot more optimistic than the news we all read makes us feel. We have a lot to be optimistic about. There are extraordinary things taking place every day. What is it about happiness that makes us want it so much? Why are we always seeking to be happy? Because it feels good! It’s that simple! From a neurological point of view, there are hormones in our brain associated with positive emotions. Dopamine as we know is a hormone associated with happiness and serotonin regulates our mood. The increase in levels of dopamine triggers a feeling of euphoria in a way. The muscles relax and there’s that feeling of total ease. If I were to ask you right now, are you happy? You’d probably say things like “yeah, I don’t know” or……….. “I’ve been better” or ………..“Not really” or even better …..“Absolutely!”. Now wouldn’t that be a delight to the ears! The state of happiness is in a way contagious. When we see people around being happy or saying that they’re happy or talking happy, as crappy as we feel about ourselves or our day, there’s bound to be an impact on our overall mood. You see most times the person expressing and sharing their happiness doesn’t even realize what an impact it makes to others. Each time they get a ‘like’, ‘love’ or ‘wow’ on their Facebook status' or comments on their Instagram posts  it shifts other people’s energies to create that similar kind of feeling. Often I hear people saying that they want to do something good with their lives, something with a purpose etc.  How about sharing your joy with others? Spreading happiness as a community…. Every time I log into the Stonehenge Resident App, there’s always some new information on a forthcoming event or a promotion. Does that make me happy? Hell, yeah! I think we can all agree that living in one of the Stonehenge properties comes with tons of perks when it comes to pursuing all sorts of interests and fun activities. I for one look forward to the fitness classes by BellaVita, events that partner with the Liquid Lab and all those discounts with my favorite studios like Exhale and Pure Barre. Often during the various parties I invite some of our friends (isn’t that the best?) and we end up having a great time. Some people walk in feeling ‘meh’ and leave the evening saying, “wow, I had such a great time, thanks for inviting.” In the course of the two and a half years I’ve lived here, I’ve met so many interesting people, had fun conversations and never regretted any of it.. So the next time you see someone at the lobby or the elevator or at the next event, go ahead and smile! Maybe they’ll smile back, maybe they won’t….but I can assure you this – you’ll feel better knowing you tried to create happiness in a world filled with pessimism and negativity. And like Lilly Pulitzer says “Being happy never goes out of style”
